I don’t like the new Tumblr post page. I suffer from severe sight loss, and contrast is important when looking at things, such as reading letters, looking at labels or reading things on the web. I use a magnifier often, so I can quickly enlarge and read a bit of text without screwing with the page layout (Increasing text size works sometimes, but usually it just breaks everything)
With these new icons, I’m finding it too difficult to use. I cannot see the link/unlink buttons at all, and everything else is very faint. I cannot read tags once they’ve been typed in, and above this post now is a box which upon zooming in rather large says ‘upload another photo’, which I cannot read, and it’s difficult to figure out where the edge of this box is. Furthermore, the Close button at the bottom right, I can’t see the edge clearly, and often mis-click just to the side. I can press Escape now though.
I doubt the moderators or staff of Tumblr will see this, so I won’t expect them to fix anything, but if you’re part of the Tumblr modding community, please consider making something to replace these buttons and boxes to make them easier to see for those of us with a visual impairment.
Tumblr is becoming harder to use, and is ruining my enjoyment of it, and if things keep going this way of making things look trendy rather than them being functional, communicating with my friends will eventually become more of a chore than a passtime.

This is the type of complaint that is /actually real/ and worthwhile to maybe fix for those who need it…

A big thanks to everyone who’s reblogged this, I’m happy the response was positive, and that y’all understood my difficulties. <3

When I was in kindergarten, there was a new girl named Mia who came from Japan, I believe, and I was assigned to be her helper because she couldn’t speak English. Over the few months we spent together, we became really close, and we had flashcards with the characters for an English word, and we could figure out what she was trying to tell us with those. I actually taught her quite a few different sentences and sayings in English after a while. I remember that she would get nosebleeds often, and each time I would escort her to the nurse, they would tell me to leave but she would make me stay with her. At our school we had a field day and me and her were never apart from each other the whole time. (Shown above) After a while, she had to move away with her family, and I never saw her again. I’ve really wanted to know how she’s changed for a very long time now. I know this is a long shot, but I’ve been wanting to talk to her again over some social network because I’ve missed her for a really long time, and I was hoping some of you guys would reblog for me. I can’t remember her last name.

If you’re tumblr-stupid like me, you’ve spent weeks (or months) wondering how everyone else seems to have the magic ability to reblog the entirety of lengthy text posts, while said posts always disappear into an ellipsis or a cut-off conversation.

Since this is a chatty text blog, let me share the secret to chatty text reblogs that I finally figured out relatively recently:

  • Step 1: Hit the reblog button for that thing what you want to reblog.
  • Step 2: Notice that this crap website is cutting off the text you want to share with the world.
  • Step 3: Go up to the big “Reblog Link” under the tumblr logo in the top right.
  • Step 4: Click the “as…”, then choose the “as text” option that appears.
  • Step 5: Cry happy tears because you’ve finally figured this shit out.

Signal boost for those who need to know how to do this!

I know that there’s a lot of stuff going on, but please take a few seconds out of your day to read this post.

Here in Orange County, a 9 year old trans girl joined one of the local girl scout troops.  Ordinarily this would not be a problem, and the National Council of the Girl Scouts has a non-discrimination policy in place, as well as a medical privacy policy to protect trans children.

The leader of this group, Nancy Nygren, even though she has been informed it is against the law to do so, is planning to out this young girl to the rest of the troop, to the Girl Scouts, and all the repercussions that will entail such as outing her at her school. We all know the type of harm which might entail if this is allowed to occur. This leader is adamant that she will not be stopped from doing this despicable act even though it is against Girl Scout policies and California law to do so, as well as being a HIPAA violation of the girl’s privacy, which is a federal law.

Everyone please take a moment to voice their opinion directly to the Girl Scout Council so that maybe this leader can be stopped before doing irreparable harm to this wonderful and brave young girl. To do so, please contact the Orange County Council as well as the National Council. We do not have an email address as of yet, but we do have phone numbers to share below. Nancy Nygren is the CEO of the Orange County Girl Scout Council and it should be her job to protect the youth in her charge instead of knowingly to bring harm to them. To voice your extreme disapproval of this despicable act by Ms. Nygren, please contact the following:

OC GS Council: 949-461-8811

National GS Council: 800-478-7248

This is something which could happen at any time, so a quick response is of the essence.

Please let them respectfully know what you think, and please spread awareness of this to keep a 9 year old trans girl from being outed.

As a Girl Scout myself, this is disgusting to me. That poor little girl. -A

It would be a really good idea to look into your tax report from the years you’ve been transitioning.

Prescriptions for hormones and SRS are legal tax deductions.

In order to receive a deduction for these, though, you have to itemize your deductions. This means filing the form “1040; Schedule A (Itemized Deductions)”, and accounting for any major (or even minor) expenses that you made for the year. Just be ready in case you get audited.

Some expenses that you’re able to itemize are:

  • Medical and dental (including prescriptions)
  • Education Expenses
  • Loan interest paid
  • Gambling losses
  • Charity contributions
  • Casualty and theft losses
  • State and local taxes (income tax, property tax, vehicle registration fees, etc)

There are plenty more, a quick google search will help you find them.

Considering how effing expensive surgery and hormones are, they might make for a pretty hefty deduction.

As a warning, cosmetic surgery is excluded, which I know some areas still consider SRS to be. I have no idea how far something like that would or could get looked into…but I would still be prepared with medical proof for the necessity of the surgery.

Just as a note: This is just a tip to think about for the upcoming tax season. I’m not saying you should do it. Everyone’s situation is different and one person getting a nice refund from itemizing doesn’t mean everyone will.

Les Amis de l’ABC - A Book of Illustrations

I only have eleven submissions right now and the deadline is a month from now.

Any art you have of the Les Amis de l’ABC boys, submit to either me, or this side blog dedicated to the project where I will give you guys updates on how much art we have of each character, and how far we have to go. The updates will be reblogged here and tagged with #lesamisartbook so you don’t have to follow that blog if you don’t want to :)

Submissions!

Submitted art work needs to be fairly high resolution. So far we’ve had no problems with that :) Also I’d like it to be signed by the artist. When you submit it, could you also please tell me what the subject of the drawing is, even if it’s obvious, just for filing and sorting reasons.

What we have!

(This doesn’t count my work, hopefully my illustrations will just be there to fill any gaps for the boys that don’t have enough pictures, I’m not going to be that asshole that has all the pictures and doesn’t showcase all the actual talent in this fandom.)

I have some fantastic illustrations already and it’s a great start but definitely not enough. Also if you could give more love to some of the lesser known barricade boys, i.e. Lesgles, Bahorel, Feuilly, Jehan even Courfeyrac is a little neglected! Although, even though I have mostly Enjolras, we don’t really have enough of him either…

DEADLINE

10th of February 2013

That should be enough of time for all of us to pile a load of work together. Hopefully then I can produce a downloadable pdf and ebook for us by the end of February, before I have to get back to university.

If you don’t draw then reblogging for a signal boost would be fantastic too!

Signal boosting because I desperately want to see this happen!

Speak Up to Save Puget Sound’s Orcas
The rare and playful orcas of the Pacific Northwest urgently need your help. A property-rights group is trying to strip away Endangered Species Act protections for the last remaining killer whales in Puget Sound. We can’t let that happen. There are only about 86 orcas left in this population — and they continue to face the very real threat of extinction because of  pollution, climate change and food shortages. This unique population feeds on fish — unlike other orcas — and their salmon food source has been severely depleted. Despite these threats, the federal government is considering a proposal by the property-rights group Pacific Legal Foundation to remove orcas from the endangered species list. Please use the form below to take action and protect Puget Sound’s orcas.
Click link above. Only takes a minute.

PLEASE. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. The Southern Residents are EXTRAORDINARY; they are unique and their culture and heritage so special! I have sponsored 4 of them through the Whale Museum and I have seen them swimming free.
Please, if all you signed this, think of how many more voices would be added to the effort to protect these incredible beings!

SIGNAL FUCKING BOOST.  Please please please sign this; it is incredibly important.  The U.S. and Canadian governments fuck up/allow the fucking up of the Southern Residents’ habitat enough already; if they lose the Endangered Species Act protections, we’ll probably lose them.

can all us queer and/or trans* muslims on tumblr get together weekly or even monthly to chat? we could even hold our own makeshift worship service. i end up shying away from masjid a lot because i feel judged for being queer and i really need to feel some queer muslim community in a more immediate way than just catching your posts on tumblr occasionally. maybe if any of us are imams or would like to be imams, we could throw together something for the group. if not, we could just talk about our spirituality and what islam means to us.

please boost this even if you aren’t muslim to help us spread the word and message me to let me know if this is an idea you’d be interested in helping to organize. you don’t necessarily have to be queer and/or trans* to get involved, but you do have to be a progressive Muslim who believes in equality.
